I’m Not Here For Your Purim Jewsplaining

When I sat down to write this, I admit that I was conflicted. So much in the world recently has been negative and damaging, especially for people of color. I was hoping that I could take refuge in my faith, and have a little fun with a glass of wine in one hand, and a grogger in the other. I wanted to be able to write about costumes and treats and the joy of seeing Purim through my convert’s eyes these last few years. I was hoping that I could lose myself in a lighthearted piece about good times and witty spiels.

I can’t.

We’ve moved! You can read the rest at Multikosheral!

  1. I can’t believe you live in Brooklyn and none of these people you hang around with have never met a “Jewban,” or Argentine Jew, or Colombian or Chilean or Venezuelan…? I mean seriously? They’ve never been to Miami at least? I thought Brooklyn was so sophisticated and hipster? Move to my Jewish community– no one will bat at eyelash at your Latina self- and nobody appropriates cultural costumes… Seriously who ARE these people?

  2. YES!!!! my local chabad’s purim party theme is “africa” and i’m just sitting here quietly suffering debating whether or not it’s worth it to go – they’re the only real jewish population for miles here in south carolina. ugh ugh ugh.
